Connecticut Survivors Justice Act
Fair sentencing for survivors
The Connecticut Survivors Justice Act seeks to strengthen legal protections for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and human trafficking by changing how their experiences are taken into account during sentencing. If enacted, the bill would establish sentencing practices for survivors whose criminal offenses were shaped by the abuse or exploitation they endured.
“The [act] ensures that the unique and complex experiences of domestic violence survivors are being taken into consideration as part of sentencing and parole. It also ensures that Connecticut’s laws continue to keep pace with our evolving understanding of domestic violence, stalking, sexual assault, and trafficking.”
